Giant film returns to Indiana’s biggest movie screen for limited time

“The Dark Knight” makes a special return to the IMAX Theater in the Indiana State Museum

INDIANAPOLIS – “The Dark Knight: The IMAX Experience” is making a special return to the largest movie screen in Indiana at the IMAX Theater in the Indiana State Museum, starting Friday, Jan. 23. For either the first-time viewer or an avid “Dark Knight” enthusiast, watching this epic film on the six-stories tall, 84-foot wide screen is a completely different experience, enhanced with IMAX image technology and a 12,000-watt digital surround-sound system. This is the film’s final visit to the theater.

“The Dark Knight has already established itself as a must-see film, but experiencing the action and excitement in an IMAX setting takes the audience to a completely new level,” said Dave Brown, theater director of the IMAX Theater in the Indiana State Museum. “If you haven’t seen the film, or you’re thinking about watching it again, you’ll get the best bang for your buck at IMAX.”

“The Dark Knight” has raked in several awards, including a Golden Globe Award for Heath Ledger’s outstanding performance as The Joker. It won the Critics’ Choice Award for Best Action Film, and swept the People’s Choice Awards in five categories, including Favorite Movie and Favorite Cast.

The film is also nominated for the Best Picture of the Year by the Producers Guild of America, and it’s featured on more than 150 critics’ top-ten lists, including “The New York Times,” “USA Today” and “Rolling Stone.” This encore presentation of the blockbuster hit is arriving at the theater just in time for The Oscars, which have not yet announced official nominations, in February. The theater will be giving away posters and other promotional items for the film during the opening night, Jan. 23, while supplies last.

“The Dark Knight: The IMAX Experience” was made for the big screen, featuring six sequences shot with detailed IMAX® cameras to capture even more enhanced visuals. Sequences shot in traditional 35mm have been digitally re-mastered into The IMAX Experience® with proprietary IMAX DMR® technology. Scenes shot in 35mm appear in IMAX DMR (letterbox), while scenes shot with IMAX’s cameras on 15/70mm film expand vertically to fill the entire IMAX screen.

“The Dark Knight,” follow-up to the action hit “Batman Begins,” reunites director Christopher Nolan and star Christian Bale, who reprises the role of Batman/Bruce Wayne in his continuing war on crime.
