Three Indiana Libraries Awarded Grants as part of Inaugural Indiana Authors Award

Winning authors name their local library as recipients of grants celebrating Indiana authors

INDIANAPOLIS --- The hometown libraries of the three Indiana authors who were recently awarded the inaugural Eugene & Marilyn Glick Indiana Authors Award will each receive $2,500 grants this month. The new Award, a program of the Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library Foundation, and the subsequent grants seek to recognize the contributions of Indiana authors to the literary landscape in Indiana and across the nation. The Award recognition and the grants to the following libraries are funded by the generosity of The Glick Fund, a fund of Central Indiana Community Foundation:

  • National Author Winner James Alexander Thom has named the Owen County Public Library in Spencer, IN.
  • Regional Author Winner Susan Neville has named the East Washington Street Branch of the Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library.
  • Emerging Author Winner Christine Montross has named the Spades Park Branch of the Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library.

“The library in Spencer was important to me 70 years ago and it still is,” said Thom. “Much of what I needed to get an inspired start in life, I found among those bookshelves. I'm confident our good librarians will use the grant well to keep enriching the lives of readers.”

Neville and Montross shared similar sentiments of fond memories of their childhood libraries in Indianapolis and the role they played and continue to play in mentoring and developing young readers.

“We’re thrilled at the success of this inaugural year for the Eugene & Marilyn Glick Indiana Authors Award,” said Danny R. Dean, President of the Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library Foundation. “This Award, along with the grants to the authors’ hometown public libraries, clearly demonstrate that Indiana has a rich tradition in cultivating talented authors. The Library Foundation extends a special thanks to Eugene and Marilyn Glick for helping us showcase Indiana authors.”
