Hubble 3D Blasts Off From Downtown Indy’s IMAX on March 19
Purdue and Notre Dame Grads Give Local Flavor to Space Adventure
INDIANAPOLIS – For nearly 20 years, the Hubble Space Telescope has dazzled us with unprecedented views of the cosmos—from the splendor of our celestial neighborhood to galaxies billions of light years away. Starting March 19, at the IMAX Theater in the Indiana State Museum, audiences will blast off alongside the Atlantis STS-125 crew, (including astronauts with Indiana ties) witness up-close some of the most challenging spacewalks ever performed, and experience virtual star travel via breath-taking, never-before-seen 3D flights through Hubble imagery. Recounting the amazing journey of the most important scientific instrument since Galileo’s original telescope, Hubble 3D will immerse moviegoers in the great wonders and astounding beauty of our universe.
"It’s been said that The IMAX Experience® is the next best thing to being in space, and with IMAX 3D, the audience really is there,” said Producer/Director Toni Myers. “With IMAX 3D we can transport people to galaxies that are 13 billion light years away—back to the edge of time. Real star travel is here at last.”
Craig Mince, theater manager of the Downtown IMAX agrees. “Watching this film in IMAX 3D will be breath-taking for our guests,” said Mince. “Hubble 3D will be one of the most memorable films ever to grace our six-story tall screen, complimented by 12,000 watts of digital surround sound. There is no doubt that the audience will feel like they have been transported into space for an out-of-this-world experience. And for two particular astronauts on this Hubble mission, their training began right here in Indiana!”
Astronaut Andrew J. Feustel, Ph.D., received an undergraduate degree in Solid Earth Sciences and a graduate degree in Geophysics from Purdue University. Astronaut Michael T. Good, Colonel, USAF, RET., received both an undergraduate and a graduated degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Notre Dame. Both were members of the Atlantis STS-125 mission, which was the final Space Shuttle mission to the Hubble Space Telescope.
Through the power of IMAX 3D, Hubble 3D will enable moviegoers to journey through distant galaxies to explore the grandeur and mysteries of our celestial surroundings, and accompany space-walking astronauts as they attempt some of the most difficult and important tasks in NASA’s history. The film will offer an inspiring and unique look into the Hubble Space Telescope’s legacy and highlight its profound impact on the way we view the universe and ourselves.
Narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio, Hubble 3D reunites the Space Station 3D filmmaking team, led by Producer/Director Toni Myers. James Neihouse, Director of Photography, also doubles as the Astronaut crew trainer. Judy Carroll is Associate Producer, and Graeme Ferguson, Co-founder of IMAX and pioneer Producer of many IMAX space films, is Executive Producer. Hubble 3D is an IMAX and Warner Bros. Pictures production, in cooperation with National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
The film has been rated G and has a running time of 43 minutes. For show times and ticket information, visit www.imaxindy.com. Tickets are now on sale.
