Singer-Songwriter Tom Chapin Brings Music and Entertainment to White River State Park on July 10
Family Arts Series offers free admission, outdoor entertainment and family fun
INDIANAPOLIS – White River State Park in downtown Indianapolis is hosting Grammy Award-winning American musician, entertainer, singer-songwriter and storyteller Tom Chapin as part of its annual Family Arts Series on July 10 at 6 p.m. Chapin’s opening act will be local artists The Grimes Girls who play such genres of music as sacred, classical, bluegrass fiddling and Celtic fiddling.
Tom Chapin’s show is a mixed family music and adult show. His family music includes the songs kids know as Chapin will sing songs from his award-winning family recordings. Chapin will also showcase some of his “grownup” recordings that will most likely include a mix of original songs, a traditional song or two, and a couple of songs that were originally sung by his late brother Harry Chapin.
Opening the evening concert on July 10 prior to Tom Chapin are local musicians The Grimes Girls. From Hendricks County, Ind., Kathleen and Natalie Grimes have been branching out from years of training in classical violin, piano, flute, and music theory. Kathleen has been a three-time semi-finalist in the World Piano Competition. Natalie currently plays 1st violin in the Hendricks Symphony Orchestra. The sisters’ ability to play several different genres of music- from sacred to classical, from bluegrass fiddling to Celtic fiddling- with precision and aplomb, causes them to be in high demand at a great variety of events. Combined with their enthusiasm, love of people, and unpredictable attempts at joke-telling, their show is a winner for all ages.
Picnics, blankets and lawn chairs are all encouraged. Celebration Amphitheater and Celebration Plaza are both handicap accessible. Food and drinks will be available for purchase on site. The Family Arts Series is made possible by the Allen Whitehill Clowes Charitable Foundation and the Lilly Endowment, Inc. For more information, visit www.inwhiteriver.com or call 317-233-2434.
