Borshoff isn’t alone in hosting an annual Secret Santa gift exchange for employees, but new this holiday season, Borshoff has added a “green” initiative to the gift giving.

Employees are encouraged to make one of their three gifts a “green” gift. They can re-gift, create or bake an item for the exchange.

A recent holiday shopping poll by Consumer Reports says that 36 percent of Americans plan on re-gifting this season. That’s ugreenxmasp from 31 percent in 2008.

Here are a few re-gifting tips from Consumer Reports that we at Borshoff will be sure to keep in mind!

1.) Ensure the gift is something you really can give again. Handmade or one-of-a-kind items are taboo for re-gifting. Appropriate goods might be bottles of wine, unopened boxes of candy, new household items and inexpensive jewelry.

2.) Check the condition. Give only new, unopened packages.

3.) Consider the gift’s desirability. If you don’t like it, do you really think someone else will?

4.) Wrap it nicely. Use new wrapping paper and a new card or gift tag. Only reuse gift bags in good condition.
