By Jeremy Zucker, account manager

I had driven or walked by the black Borshoff awning many times. Now I pass through the rotating doors every day as one of the newest staff members.
As David Byrne of Talking Heads once sang, “How did I get here?”
In a nutshell, life threw me a curve ball. After 12 years of uninterrupted employment, I found myself out of work. So I followed some basic coaching advice for facing a curve ball—I adjusted my strategy.
I’ve dipped my toes in several industries, including finance, sports journalism, publishing, and the place where I spent most of the past eight years: pharmaceuticals. Now I’m in public relations, and I finally feel like I’m home. That curve ball gave me an opportunity to really assess where I was and where I wanted to be.
What am I good at? What do I enjoy? The answers are easy—writing, telling stories, building relationships, communicating, managing projects, business development. I thrive with variety.
Next question: Where can I do those things? As I spent time meeting people and getting career advice, the name Borshoff kept popping up.
“You should look into Borshoff.”
“Have you heard of Borshoff? You might be a really good fit there.”
Well, what do you know?
I’ve had people ask me how I was able to switch industries, especially after dedicating so much time to the pharma world. Well, everyone has transferable skills. The key is figuring out how to adapt them. It certainly doesn’t hurt to continue looking for educational opportunities to build your marketability. I went back to school in 2006 to get my MBA, 10 years after I received my bachelor’s degree. I’m still discovering new ways to use that knowledge, and I maintain it was one of the best decisions I ever made. My toolbox got bigger.
I’m thrilled to be at Borshoff. My first assignment was working on the Final Four, which was one of the best professional experiences of my life. Not a bad way to start a new chapter.
