Babies are us

For nearly 10 years, I’ve benefited from the Borshoff “Bring Your Baby to Work” program, but not because I was a mother. As someone who loves babies (um, who doesn’t?), it was wonderful when we had a baby coming to work. I was widely known as the person who would come to your office for a quick snuggle, but sometimes that turned into the baby “disappearing” for hours. I took babies on client errands, to lunch with friends (Robyn and Sherry were surprised the first time I showed up with a baby, but they soon wised up) or just sat them in my lap while I researched, wrote or edited.

With my son Evan joining me in the office until mid-August, I’m excited to return the favor. He’s the tenth baby to join a parent at Borshoff in the 11 years of the program. Now that I can see it from the “other side,” I realize what a great program this is for parents.

When he was born, I couldn’t fathom returning to work, but as my maternity leave came to an end, I realized I was ready to go back to work, with him in tow. Today, I can’t fathom dropping him off at daycare, but I imagine that by the time he graduates from BYBTW, I’ll feel that both he and I are ready for the next step.

In the meantime, I welcome all the baby lovers to come visit Evan in my office if you need a little extra baby talk. He’s always happy to help brainstorm new campaign ideas, show you the latest PowerPoint tricks, or lend some positive energy to a team meeting.
