Just hear those sleigh bells jingling

Tuesday, December 6th, 2011

By Lisa Tellus, account director

It was truly the most wonderful time of the year when the Borshoff team gathered together for our annual holiday party. Our hearts were glowing as we caroled in the snow. Okay, well maybe we didn’t carol in the snow, but we had a mean karaoke session inside.

After a year of hard work, we took an afternoon to celebrate with a staff lunch and get-together. To make our gathering even more festive, a party planning team came up with activities that would leave everyone in tears and rolling on the floor with laughter.

What are you thankful for?

Wednesday, November 23rd, 2011

By Emily Collins, account manager

“Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parent of all the others.”  – Marcus Tullius Cicero, ancient Roman writer and scholar

It’s that time of year when we reflect on our lives and everything we have to be thankful for.

When I asked the question, “What are you thankful for this holiday season?” to my colleagues, here are some of the responses I received:

Letting our creativity run wild

Tuesday, November 22nd, 2011

By Emily Collins, account manager

At each staff meeting, we begin with a Creativity Exercise to get our brains going. Our latest exercise challenged us to develop a few sniglets. For those not familiar, a sniglet is any word that doesn’t appear in the dictionary, but should.

For example, intaxication is the euphoria at getting a tax refund, which lasts until you realize it was your money to start with.

We decided to share a few of our favorites, courtesy of the Borshoff staff.

  • Furloffle – a fuzzy, Greek pastry
  • Gasileanto – a flammable shelter
  • Flimbo – to be in floor limbo, as in stuck on an elevator
  • Shaftivity – to be productive while stuck in an elevator
  • Grandrama – when grandparents come over and feed your kids lots of sugar, then leave you to deal with their hyperactive state
  • Shopulate – to calculate your plan for Black Friday

What word(s) would you like to add to the dictionary?

Top 10 Tips for Creating a Better PowerPoint

Monday, November 21st, 2011

By Keesha Richardson, account manager

PowerPoint slides are frequently incorporated into presentations. When they’re executed well, they can increase your audience’s understanding of your message. But a poorly created PowerPoint presentation can be worse than not using visual aids at all – and can distract the audience from the intended message.

Check out our 10 tips for creating a better PowerPoint, and let us know if you have additional advice for communicating to your audience during a presentation.

It’s that time of year – to volunteer!

I don’t know about you, but I can hardly believe that the holidays are almost here! Amidst the chaos of the holiday shopping season it is so easy to think about what WE want…whether that is a designer handbag, home décor or a new car. (Wait—is that just me?)

But, the holidays always have a way of inspiring a sense of generosity that sometimes overshadows that feeling of want. People seem remarkably enthused to give of their time and money to organizations in need around the holidays.

It’s that time of year again…

Friday, October 28th, 2011

By Jennifer Berry, senior vice president/creative director

…Time for our annual gallery show featuring the work of talented artists from the Herron School of Art + Design. We truly look forward to this event … as much as a child looks forward to Christmahanakwanzika! (And just as much care and planning go into making this a great event.)

Each year, we get to meet fresh new artists and collaborate with them on a theme for the show. “Continuous” is our 2011 theme and it was inspired by the transformation our city has encountered over the past couple of decades – a result of the ongoing dedication of people who desire to make Indianapolis a great place to work, live and visit.

Oh, the places you never expected you’d go

Wednesday, October 26th, 2011

By Amy Wiser, account director

I’m an unabashed map geek. There’s just something I really dig about planning a trip, spreading out maps, loading up Google Maps or Bing, and studying route and terrain. I think it’s because I like to go places. I like all the possibilities—the anticipation—of new sights, new experiences.

And, since I was raised in the flat farmland of Northern Indiana, I am also naturally fascinated by the knobs, hills, hollows and hummocks that swoop around Southern Indiana and pock other parts of the Midwest. (Don’t get me wrong:  America’s Amber Waves of Grain are a beauty to behold, but don’t get me started on cliffs, canyons and honest-to-God mountains.)

We’re happy to introduce…Charlie Henry!

Monday, October 24th, 2011

Meet our newest account associate, Charlie Henry! He comes to Borshoff with experience in marketing communications. A sports fanatic (more about that below), he interned at the Indiana Sports Corporation and for the Indianapolis Tennis Championships before taking on full-time work at Structurepoint.

We are excited to welcome Charlie to the Borshoff team.

1.  What are you most looking forward to about working at Borshoff?

I am so excited to work with such well-respected and creative professionals. From my first interview, it was obvious Borshoff works in a collaborative and client-first environment. Now I am surrounded by peers who not only care about the work I produce for clients, but also care about me as a person. I am excited to continue learning and growing as a professional.

Paying attention to the man behind the curtain.

By Mark LeClerc, creative director

Sometimes the path is just as interesting as the destination. That’s why we turned the camera around when filming our recent television spots for the newly rebranded Franciscan Alliance. If you’d like a glimpse of the process, just watch our Making Of video below. And if you haven’t seen the spots on air, don’t worry. They’re at the end of the video. And that’s a wrap.

Beautiful foliage, ripe apples and cooler weather – Autumn is here. That means we are getting ready for the Borshoff Annual Gallery Show + Awards. Traditionally, every Fall we partner with Herron School of Art and Design and have a gallery show here at Borshoff. This year we’re changing it up.
