Paying attention to the man behind the curtain.

Wednesday, October 19th, 2011

By Mark LeClerc, creative director

Sometimes the path is just as interesting as the destination. That’s why we turned the camera around when filming our recent television spots for the newly rebranded Franciscan Alliance. If you’d like a glimpse of the process, just watch our Making Of video below. And if you haven’t seen the spots on air, don’t worry. They’re at the end of the video. And that’s a wrap.

Eating 200 fewer calories per day could save you from gaining 20 pounds during the course of a year. And, cutting out just one regular soda per day keeps off an additional 18 pounds per year. (more…)

Borshoffers brave the mini

Twenty-six thousand. That’s the average number of steps that brave Borshoffers participating in the 500 Festival Mini-Marathon on May 7 will take.

I’ve never been a competitive runner, or any type of competitive athlete for that matter. And I’m not daring enough to attempt the 13.1-mile trek that many of my colleagues will embark on this Saturday in Indianapolis.  (more…)

“Health is the new green.” A look at IUPUI’s PR Lifelines in Health Care conference

Monday, April 11th, 2011

By Jackie Koumpouras, account associate

Working full time while being a part-time student certainly has its benefits. Last Thursday, the Master’s program I’m enrolled in conducted its third annual PR Lifelines in Health Care conference at its campus center in downtown Indianapolis.

PR Lifelines in Health Care is presented by the Indiana University School of Journalism Master of Arts in Public Relations program at IUPUI. The conference is designed to provide PR professionals, in the health care and life science industries of central Indiana, with some of the latest communications tools, information and strategies that can be a “lifeline” to new ideas and innovative programs involving health care. I had the opportunity to attend not only as a graduate student studying PR health care but also as a representative of Borshoff.

Recognizing a passion for wellness

Wednesday, March 9th, 2011

By Erik Johnson, APR, principal

Our own Susan Matthews, APR, Borshoff principal, was honored Saturday night with a Cancer Support Community 2011 Women of Wellness Award. We couldn’t be more proud.

Presented during the Cancer Support Community’s 11th Annual Laughing Matters program, this important award recognized Susan’s hard work and passion for the cause, both as a trustee of the Cancer Support Community from 2001-2010 and as chairman of the board in 2004-2005. Moreover, the award citation applauded Susan’s drive and vision to build a warm, welcoming place of respite for people facing cancer – the Paulsen Center for Cancer Support, which opened in 2008. Getting creative with health and wellness goals

Monday, December 20th, 2010

By Josh Taylor, graphic designer

As Kassie mentioned in our blog in November, our office has begun a Wellness Initiative to encourage us to live healthy lifestyles and make our wellness a priority. As a part of that initiative, we each wear a pedometer and have a goal for daily steps, typically around 5,000. While that may seem like an easy goal to meet, when you sit at a desk most of the day the molehill looks far more like a mountain. To be completely honest, I rarely meet my goal. (more…)

Wellness at work – smart thinking

Thursday, November 11th, 2010

By Kassie Mills, Account Manager

Two years ago, I started the Borshoff Wellness Initiative to share my personal passion for health and fitness with colleagues and encourage them to make healthy living a priority. We started lunch-break yoga classes, organized a team for the Walk to Cure Diabetes, encouraged flu prevention and more. This week, Borshoff took the initiative a step further by launching a comprehensive wellness program that will be integrated with our health benefits!

Borshoff goes the distance…13.1 miles to be exact

Runners, joggers and walkers alike from the Borshoff team will courageously tackle the 13.1-mile 500 Festival Mini-Marathon this Saturday. As part of the Borshoff Wellness Initiative, a program started in 2009 to encourage healthy lifestyles among our employees, we supported our colleagues with a carb-loading luncheon and pep rally today.

Following recommendations from the experts, we loaded up on carbohydrates with a variety of pastas. According to the Mayo Clinic, carb loading helps maximize energy storage and boost athletic performance, and athletes should increase their carb intake to 70 percent of their daily calories three to four days before a high-intensity, high-endurance event. (Employees not participating in the Mini will simply use the extra carbs to more energetically support their coworkers.)

During the luncheon, we cheered on our mini-marathoners with a short pep rally involving cheering and…well, eating.
