We truly look forward to this event … as much as a child looks forward to Christmahanakwanzika! (And just as much care and planning go into making this a great event.)

Each year, we get to meet fresh new artists and collaborate with them on a theme for the show. “Continuous” is our 2011 theme and it was inspired by the transformation our city has encountered over the past couple of decades – a result of the ongoing dedication of people who desire to make Indianapolis a great place to work, live and visit.

We let the artists choose their subject matter, but gave them one condition … they had to create their masterpiece using one, single, continuous line. This should be GOOD! ; )

We’re super excited to see the final art and hope you can join us for our gallery show. You can even vote for YOUR favorite art!

Beautiful foliage, ripe apples and cooler weather – Autumn is here. That means we are getting ready for the Borshoff Annual Gallery Show + Awards. Traditionally, every Fall we partner with Herron School of Art and Design and have a gallery show here at Borshoff. This year we’re changing it up.

I am excited to announce that we will host our 2011 show at the Harrison Center for the Arts (16th and Delaware St.) from 6-9 p.m. on Friday, November 4.We will be on the lower level of the Harrison Center in Hank and Dolly’s Gallery (5 gallon hats not required).

The Harrison Center is a hub for arts and culture in Indianapolis. It has many galleries and artist studio spaces. Additionally, it’s the site of multiple art events throughout the year – such as Independent Music + Art Festival, Foodcon and The Handicraft Exchange. I am thrilled to have our show among so many great Indianapolis artists.

This year’s gallery show will be held on IDADA’s First Friday, and our new location will guarantee great exposure for these young and talented Herron students. Hope to see you there.

By Micah Sitzman, senior graphic designer

One of my favorite aspects of Borshoff is its spirit of collaboration, which provides everyone with a chance to participate and have ownership in a project. There is nothing better than bringing a half-baked idea to a group and coming out with a solid creative solution. It’s fascinating to see where others take a particular idea or concept. We practice this process in-house and, of course, with our partners – including Herron School of Art and Design.

I have to say Borshoff’s ongoing collaboration with Herron is one of our most rewarding relationships. Each year we provide a theme relevant to our industry or clients, and Herron students produce amazing artwork that supports the theme.

Last month I presented the 2011 theme, “Light Construction,” for the upcoming Borshoff Annual Gallery Show + Awards. This year, Herron photography students are capturing the growth, progression and expansion of Indianapolis with pinhole cameras.

Be on the look out for photos from “Light Construction” on our Facebook page.

Congratulations to Jacob Custer, winner of the second annual Borshoff Gallery Show. The show’s theme is “Future,” and eight Herron Art School and Design graduate students contributed.

Jacob says of the future: “To be able to project into the future and see where certain pathways end is an ability that all of us fall short of. So abstract superstitions, like wishing, become a way to cope with uncertainty and form a sense of security to where life may lead into the future.”

For his winning lithograph, “Wishbone,” Jacob received a $1,000 prize. All eight prints are on display in the Borshoff training room through the end of October. Please contact Micah in advance if you would like a gallery tour.

For the second year in a row, Borshoff will be hosting a gallery show featuring prints created by the Herron School of Art and Design students. Katie Linville and I recently stopped by to check in and view some of the work (in progress, of course) for the next show.

We watched graduate student Matthew Pazzol finish a print on one of the presses and we toured the graduate students’ studio space to get a sneak preview of their work for the upcoming show.

It was really fun to see another creative space – it always charges me up to think about how much your own environment impacts your creativity. Be it messy and unorganized or tidy and neat – I truly believe this greatly influences our ideas. It’s amazing how much we react to color, texture and patterns. The bottom line is… I need more prints and random art on my walls – at home and work.

Oh… and the work looked good too!
