I had driven or walked by the black Borshoff awning many times. Now I pass through the rotating doors every day as one of the newest staff members.
As David Byrne of Talking Heads once sang, “How did I get here?”
In a nutshell, life threw me a curve ball. After 12 years of uninterrupted employment, I found myself out of work. So I followed some basic coaching advice for facing a curve ball—I adjusted my strategy.
I’ve dipped my toes in several industries, including finance, sports journalism, publishing, and the place where I spent most of the past eight years: pharmaceuticals. Now I’m in public relations, and I finally feel like I’m home. That curve ball gave me an opportunity to really assess where I was and where I wanted to be.
