Crisis communications

The 36-story One Indiana Square building in Indianapolis suffered significant damage during a 2006 spring storm. While the tower was deemed structurally sound, the building was closed, displacing nearly 40 tenants and more than 1,000 employees from their offices. The extensive damage also closed the surrounding streets and sidewalks. In the days immediately following the storm, city and building officials could not anticipate the reopening of the streets or the building. Borshoff was brought in to coordinate all communications surrounding the crisis while ensuring tenant and public safety.

RESULTS: In the eight weeks following the storm, the Borshoff team worked with the building's owners to address the myriad needs of its tenants. The news media was kept informed throughout the process, reducing public worry over the building's and the tenants' fates. Long term, we helped maintain the building's occupancy rate; 98 percent of tenants chose to return to the building.
